I hate to get non-porny on this wank blog… No, I don’t. There’s a reason I have a “buzzkill” tag, plus this is a topic I have some feelings on. I hope you stick around, but if you don’t it’s cool. There’s butt spam on the other side.
Also, this isn’t a swipe at aellagirl. I think she takes brilliant pictures which is why I follow her. I also respect her opinion, but I think this graphic is just bad science and not supportive of anything.
When I was younger, I would have gone through every single figure here (enlarge by clicking or just go here), but I’m old now and have work in the morning. I’ll bounce around a bit.
We can toss the second set of data right out. What is does is total a number of incidences, then divide then into two categories “fatherless” and “motherless.” If we assume* that second to last figure in the first set is correct and 84% of the winners of sole custody are women that means that 84% of kids in single family homes are in “fatherless” homes**. The second set seems to want to say that children without fathers do much worse than children without mothers, but does that follow. What is says it children from a large majority pop up in large numbers across a few categories. I bet “fatherless” children are much more likely that “motherless” children to have appendicitis just by sheer numbers. They are also more likely to get into non-fatal car accidents, have green eyes, and like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape.
To get something useful we would have to get the percentage of occurrences in group 1 and the percentage of occurrences in group 2. That’s still not proving anything, but at least it’s heading towards something.
Back to the first set. I wish these things gave set time periods. The closest we get is “historically” in the combat death figure, probably to account for the fact that more and more women are fighting and dying for our country. They have always been there, but we are only now openly allowing them to fight. Question: who banned women from combat? Answer: dudes. A lot of the first set can be chalked up to dudes fucking over dudes. Also race and class, but let’s keep moving.
More men die from suicide, but more women attempt it. Men tend to go with means that are harder to come back from (e.g. guns, hanging). That’s what I was taught years ago. Please correct me if the science has changed. Also, how is that discrimination?
Men get more time in prison than women on average? For what crimes? Break out the crimes. If men are routinely getting longer sentences for the same exact crime, that’s an issue. Again dudes fucking dudes, also race and class.
3 out of 10 dudes who request a paternity test aren’t the father. Doesn’t that mean 7 out of 10 still are? Also, you don’t request a paternity test unless you have serious doubts. Those things aren’t cheap.
The gender studies thing is just a new verse to “Why Isn’t There a ‘White’ Entertainment Network” and I don’t feel like singing that song. Also, what would a gender studies course for men look like? Serious question.
I have more (like how hetero and cis-normative this is), but that’s enough. I’m sure if you reverse google image search this you’ll find plenty of only people arguing for and against it. Enjoy.
*I wish this chart used footnotes or some form of in-text citation. There’s no way I’m plowing though over a dozen entries hoping to stumble upon the one I want. Weird citations are peeve of mine. *pushes glasses up nose*
**Assuming no re-marriage, no dating men who have a strong bond with the kids. “Fatherless” isn’t defined here. What if the woman got divorced because she’s a lesbian and she marries a another woman?
I just realized I made an error here. I assumed all “fatherless” or “motherless” (such terms!) children are the result of divorce. I know that one can lose a parent many ways including not have one in your life the first place. My points still stand and I doubt anyone else gives a shit, but I needed to correct that for my own ego really.
One last thing: “rapists with anger issues?” Do the polite rapists come from intact nuclear families? What weird phrasing.
Okay. Back to porn.
